Abstract :

 Trulia has a large number of datasets related to real estate, geography, and the activity of its users.  The data science team is focused on turning this data into new product offerings and improved consumer experience.   We will discuss some examples of the data science projects such as location recommendations and machine learned search rankings.  The team is involved in all aspects of these projects, from ideation to research to development to productionization. 


Profile :
Joseph Kong is a senior data scientist at Trulia, a real estate search engine company. Previously, he was at Northrop Grumman where he led and launched several successful machine learning and data mining projects. He placed top 10 among 4000+ teams in KDD Cup 2011 on building a personalized music recommender system. Joseph Kong holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from UCLA, where he did his dissertation research in network science. He has published 10+ peer-reviewed articles in top journals and conferences, including Journal of Machine Learning Research and a cover article in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
