Abstract

Trade Secret Investigations and Protecting against Big Data Embezzlement Today’s Trade Secrets may involve more than simply the “secret sauce”. They may also be derived from the complex data analytics performed on proprietary ‘big data’ which is housed by your organization. This presentation will provide insight into the investigative actions that may be taken within the enterprise to uncover anomalous activity which may in fact be active data embezzlement. In addition, data protection best practices will be examined within the context of managing the cyber threat to distributed data stores, cloud based systems and other at risk systems.

Erik Laykin, CHFI, CEDS, JMG is the Managing Director and Founder of the Global Cyber Forensics practice at Duff & Phelps LLC. Erik serves as an expert witness and court appointed Special Master on issues such as electronic discovery/computer forensic disputes, investigation of cyber-crime, trade secret theft, corporate espionage and other complex information technology disputes. Erik is the co-chair of the American Bar Association Computer Forensic Expert Witness, and Data, Privacy and Evidence sub-committees and is the past president and Pacific Rim Director of the FBI’s Infragard Program. Erik newest book “Investigative Computer Forensics” was recently published by John Wiley & Sons.
