Abstract

Big Data and Machine Learning tend to be the top buzz words today.  Everyone wants to get into this area but many questions still remain - Are these just cool toys for technologists or do they really create business value?  What’s the best path for adaption? What do we need to get started or transition from relational database and traditional analytics towards big data and machine learning?  Should we pick one over the other?

In this talk, Aamer will share practical tips on how to leverage these exciting technologies to create maximum value in the shortest possible time.

Profile

Aamer Charania is the Director of Data Science at Capital One.  His team delivers AI and Machine Learning solutions powering two of Capital One’s signature consumer products - Auto Navigator and Auto Refinance. He finds tremendous value in leveraging machine learning for complex challenges like computer vision, product recommendation, personalization, natural language processing, clickstream analytics, marketing response models, and fraud detection. Before joining Capital One, Aamer led the strategy and development of state of the art big data and analytics products at Humana and Verizon.  Prior to that, he was a research assistant at MIT developing airline revenue management applications. 

Aamer has been awarded 10 patents in analytics and big data space.  He enjoys volunteering at professional organizations and was the president of MIT Alumni Club of DFW.  Recently he launched Dallas AI, the fastest growing AI forum around Dallas, attracting 1500+ members in the first few months. 

Aamer holds Masters degree in Engineering from MIT, Masters in Computer Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and MBA from Southern Methodist University.  He is reachable at: www.linkedin.com/in/aamercharania/
