Big Data & Machine Learning in the real world
Big Data and Machine Learning tend to be the top buzz words today. Everyone wants to get into this area but many questions still remain - Are these just cool toys for technologists or do they really create business value? What’s the best path for adaption? What do we need to get started or transition from relational database and traditional analytics towards big data and machine learning? Should we pick one over the other?
In this talk, Aamer will share practical tips on how to leverage these exciting technologies to create maximum value in the shortest possible time.
With over 15 years of experience at MIT, Verizon and Humana, and 10 patents, Aamer has been a pioneer in Big Data and Machine Learning space.
At Humana, he currently directs the development of big data and machine learning products, supporting cosumer analytics. The products are primarily built over Apache Spark along with relevant Hadoop ecosystem components. These solutions help generate valuable business insights from wide variety of structured and unstructured data sources including customer claims, demographics, call center notes, web activity, medical records, and purchasing trends.
Before Humana, Aamer led the design and development of an efficient big data platform at Verizon that collects and analyzes data from many disparate sources including multiple consumer devices (smart phones, tablets, gaming consoles, set-top boxes, smart TVs, media players, & PCs), enterprise billing and ordering systems, web and app servers, and third party providers. As a researcher at MIT, he built simulation software to evaluate various analytical algorithms for airline revenue management.
Aamer has a Masters in Computer Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), an MBA from Southern Methodist University, and a Masters in Transportation Engineering from MIT
