Interview with Norbert Krupa, Solution Architect, Talend - Speaker at Denver Big Data Bootcamp Sep 30 - Oct 2 2016 Posted on : Sep 28 - 2016

We feature speakers at Big Data Bootcamp Denver Sep 30 - Oct 2 to catch up and find out what he or she is working on now and what's coming next. This week we're talking to Norbert Krupa, Solution Architect, Talend.

Interview with Norbert Krupa

Tell us about yourself and your background.

I started out doing freelance web design when I was younger and decided a career in IT was a natural fit. While I was finishing my studies, I started getting a better feel for what I wanted to focus on. So my focus shifted from programming to working with data. I moved from an Analyst position, into Business Intelligence, then working as a DBA. During my work as a DBA, I was introduced to the Vertica database. I was so excited about using the product and how fast it ingested data that I went on to consulting for Vertica and finally became a Solutions Engineer for Vertica.

As I worked with customers, more and more began discussing NoSQL, Hadoop, and cloud technologies. I realized I wouldn’t learn much by only working on Vertica. Through a former colleague, I was introduced to the Talend integration platform which specialized in Big Data but also traditional technologies. Talend’s platform supports so many different technologies that I can say I’ve learned something new every week since I started with Talend.

What have you been working on recently?

Personally, I’m trying to complete my graduate studies. Professionally, every week is a new opportunity with different customers and different technologies. My goal is to provide guidance on how customers can build and deliver value from the Talend Platform, especially with Big Data.

Tell me about the right tool you used recently to solve customer problem?

That’s an easy one: Talend. It really solves 99% of customer problems in the data management space.

What are some of the best takeaways that the attendees can have from your "Integrating Realtime Data Streams with Spark and Kafka for Video and Data-Stream Analysis " talk?

Takeaways for attendees from the session would be to have a high level understanding of Spark and Kafka and their related use cases.

What are the top 5 Big Data Use cases?

In no particular order…

1.       IoT (Internet of Things) – everything is becoming connected; from adult diaper sensors to refrigerators
2.       Healthcare – the more data that we gather and analyze, better decisions can be made and hopefully lead to better treatments
3.       Fraud Detection – it’s more common and easier to use credit cards; but that comes with more cases of fraud
4.       Clickstream – understanding customer clicks and history leads to better predictions for consumers and a reduction in cart abandonment
5.       360 view of the customer – analyzing customer behavior leads to improved and customized customer experiences

What trends you see in upcoming 6 months?

I would predict there will be more momentum for XaaS (Anything as a Service). The ability to use any technology as a service gives organizations the ability to more quickly evaluate, implement, and deliver value from their data. This also means there should be a (continuing & growing) demand for cloud computing.
