Interview with Jennelle Crothers (Developer Evangelist, Microsoft) - Speaker at Global Software Architecture Conf - Jun 9- Posted on : May 26 - 2017

We feature speakers at Global Software Architecture Conference - SantaClara - June 2017 to catch up and find out what he or she is working on now and what's coming next. This week we're talking to Jennelle Crothers, Developer Evangelist, Microsoft (Topic: Containers Your Way)

Interview with Jennelle Crothers,

1. Tell us about yourself and your background.

I'm a Microsoft Technical Evangelist who spent 15 years as a jack of all trades w/ Windows domains, Exchange, and other IT systems for a few small and medium sized businesses. My role now involves supporting platform awareness for Azure & related technologies.

 2.  What have you been working on recently?

The past year has had me really focused on DevOps and related technologies. So lots of cloud infrastructure and of course, containers.

 3. Tell me about the right tool you used recently to solve customer problem?

With a focus on DevOps I feel like I've gotten away from any one specific tool. I've really enjoyed helping some customers focus on their processes and allowing them to make better use of the tools they already have, before needing to go out and find others.

 4. Where are we now today in terms of the state of Containers, and where do you think we’ll go over the next five years?

I think containers are the next thing that more traditional operations folks are going to have to take into consideration as they plan the future of their infrastructures. Just like hardware virtualization changed the way we manage servers, containers are going to be changing the way we manage our applications, operating systems and data centers.

 6. What are some of the best takeaways that the attendees can have from your "Containers Your Way"?

talk: My goal of the talk is to get people who are new to cotainers to understand how they differ from traditional VMs and how they can be added to existing infrastructure without too much disruption.

 7. What are the top 5 Containers Use cases in enterprises?

Top five is hard... because it's not about any one particular use over another, but the reasons they are useful - portable, quick to get running, scalable. If you have an application that can benefit from those types of features, its worth looking at containers as a way realize those goals.

 8. Which company do you think is winning the Containers race?

I think there are plenty of containers to go around. :-)
