Interview with - Suman kumar singh, Chief Analytics Officer, Zafin - Speaker at 5th Annual Global Big Data Conf Posted on : Jul 25 - 2017

We feature speakers at 5th Annual Global Big Data Conference - August 2017 to catch up and find out what he or she is working on now and what's coming next. This week we're talking to Suman kumar singh, Chief Analytics Officer, Zafin (Topic : Application Of Advance Feature Engineering & Ensemble Machine Learning Algorithms Powered By Big Data)

Interview with  Suman kumar singh

1. Tell us about yourself and your background.
I am the Chief Analytics Officer at Zafin and  responsible for analytics product development, strategy and consulting. Zafin is a market leader in relationship based pricing and product life cycle management. I have 15 years of experience in building predictive models, machine learning algorithms and high performing computing system for deploying algorithms into a client’s book.

2. What have you been working on recently?
Recently at Zafin, I have been building an advance analytics product “miInsights”  a relationship analytics product for financial institutions. Relationship Analytics is a high computing data processing engine powered by deep learning algorithms to deliver cutting-edge predictive scores. miInsights empowers bankers to view client's journey and make prescriptive recommendations to maximize client satisfaction and improve profitability. Business users can develop personalized offers for individual clients based on the client’s depth & breadth of engagement. The system helps banks to optimize products, offer right bundle of product & services to right clients based on their need, align right channel to right clients, reduce churn & improve clients  experience.

3. Tell me about the right tool you used recently to solve customer problem?
We are using Sqoop for batch processing and FLAFKA for real time data feed , Hive & SPARK  for data processing & feature creation and python (sklearn, numpy, statsmodels.api), R and H2O for machine learning algorithms.

4. Where are we now today in terms of the Big data, and where do you think we’ll go over the next five years?
Big-data technology has been well recognized by various industries, but mostly for building data lake, data storage and data processing. In my view, Big data has more to offer to analytics solutioning. We at Zafin are using Big data technology to compute complex features and boost computing time. In next five years, the right tools  & technology with the combination of AI and ML will solve  core business issue across industries.

5. You’ve already hired Y number of  people approximately. What would be your pitch to folks out there to join your Organization? Why does your organization matter in the world?
Zafin is a market innovator and leader in relationship based pricing and product life cycle management. Using our product, banks can understand and incentivize client behavior, offering the right product to the right client at the right time through the right channel at the right price. Innovation is in our DNA and we would like to be an innovator in the BFSI sector.  If you believe in every day innovation,  want to work on cutting edge technology then Zafin is the place to be!

6. What are some of the best take aways that the attendees can have from your talk on "Application Of Advance Feature Engineering & Ensemble Machine Learning Algorithms Powered By Big Data"?
Application of the advance feature engineering to overcome bias-variance trade-off and remove the overfitting problem in prediction. Our objective would be to select a minimum set of  variables while maximizes goodness of fit. A novel apporch of ensemble algorithms to improve model accuracy and reduce false positive significantly.

7. What are the top 5 Big data Use cases in enterprises?

a. Real Time fraud detection and Anti-money laundering prevention
b. Prescriptive recommendation on machine failure using sensors data
c. Enabling customer centric strategies based on rich insights
d. Channelizing huge amount of unstructured data into insights
e. Financial projection based on sales, customer activity, competition and macro data points

8. Which company do you think is winning the global Big Data race?
I don’t think it’s a race among companies. The whole ecosystem is shaping up and everyone has a place to be in. There are distinct use cases and paths which successful companies have been following in executing Big Data strategies.
