Hunting adversaries : Data Science and Security at The Home Depot

Abstract

The Home Depot IT Security data science team was set up with the objective of using data science and machine learning in the information security space. Threats have multiplied and become more sophisticated over the past few years, along with the infrastructure and applications being used in the enterprise. The data science team uses the overwhelming amount of security data available to provide meaningful threat disruption. Meaningful being the operative word in this case. This talk focuses on the data science initiatives within the Security team at The Home Depot. And specifically focusing on the challenging aspects on working at the intersection of data science and security.

Arjun Chakraborty has been working in the IT Security division of The Home Depot as a Data Scientist since January 2016.He is responsible for building the IT Security division’s machine learning capabilities . In December 2015, he graduated from The Georgia Institute of Technology with a Masters degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. His focus areas were in Signal Processing and control systems. In the summer of 2015, he interned at the Centre for Advanced Machine Learning at Symantec. At Symantec, he was responsible for the implementation of neural networks to detect malware
