Abstract

As a Data Visualization Specialist and Interaction Designer working at the legacy media news corporation, The Washington Post, Gabi Steele has a unique perspective on contemporary uses of Data Visualization and what we need to know about the field. Gabi comes from an interdisciplinary background of design and creative technology and graduated in the first cohort of Data Visualization Master of Science students at Parsons School of Design. This session will explore various forms of storytelling through data visualization at The Washington Post, specifically focusing on branded content and the opportunity this form of advertising presents for producing data visualizations. The session will also address what it means to hold the title of a Data Visualization Specialist in 2017 and what employers should look for when hiring individuals to fill this role.

Profile

Gabi Steele is a designer, speaker and data visualization specialist. She graduated in the first cohort of students with a Master of Science in Data Visualization from Parsons School of Design. Gabi is also the co-founder of Raw Haus, a creative community bringing together emerging talent in design, technology and entrepreneurship. Gabi currently works at The Washington Post on the BrandStudio team in New York.
